Special Service-Learning Events: Programs, Initiatives and Webinars

Service-Learning Days are a theme-based approach to service-learning at vetted community organizations located near FSCJ campuses. The opportunities available to students and faculty are designed to address the most challenging issues facing our community, including food security, affordable housing, human trafficking and gender equality, literacy and early learning and confronting opioid addiction, among others.

Faculty can choose a service opportunity as a class experience. Students can also sign up for service projects individually. A calendar of organized service activities will be available each term.

To search and register for an upcoming service learning opportunity, visit the event calendar and search “Service-Learning Day.”

Bridging the Divide

An in-depth look at the disparities across our community.

Bridging the Divide

Florida State College at Jacksonville has partnered with the Rashean Mathis Foundation and Campus Compact’s Fund for Positive Engagement to launch Bridging the Divide, a new initiative designed to explore the varying issues and challenges that create division and conflict throughout our community.

As part of this project, FSCJ students engaged in extensive research to examine the health, education, criminal justice and socioeconomic disparities faced by Jacksonville’s four quadrants - Northside, Southside, Eastside and Westside. Through collaboration with peers and faculty, students worked alongside community members to develop solutions that strengthen and unite all of Jacksonville.

FSCJ convened students, faculty, local business leaders and community stakeholders at a community luncheon to share findings. Attendees shared a meal and engaged in critical conversations that built on proposed solutions.

This project is sponsored by Campus Compact’s Fund for Positive Engagement.
