May Recruitment Update

Summer is here and with it, the transition from the traditional recruitment season to that of onboarding and orientation for our incoming fall students. You can check out early summer orientation dates and locations here.

With the close of the academic year comes many reasons to celebrate and the team in FSCJ Student Recruitment & Admissions doesn’t shy away from a good time! Recruiters and enrollment coaches alike closed out the academic year with a flurry of celebratory events recognizing the achievements of our service area graduates.

In Nassau County School District (NCSD), team members hosted Enrollment Assistance Day (EAD) events at each of the four public high schools. These events focused on celebrating next steps for students, including finalizing residency, placement, FAFSA completion and orientation registration. At Hilliard Middle-Senior High School (HMSHS), in partnership with school counselor Tammy Johnson, FSCJ team members helped achieve in Tammy’s words “AMAZING!!!” results with our FAFSA completion efforts, increasing the completion rate by 18.9% year over year. Additionally, HMSHS boasts a 100% submission to completion rate with students able to successfully start and finish the application and as a result have secured over $68k in Pell Grant money for the coming school year.

Meanwhile within Duval County Public Schools (DCPS), along with colleagues from TRiO, Dual Enrollment and other departments, Recruitment & Admissions supported and attended several College Signing Day events throughout the district. From smaller, more intimate events with partner schools such as KIPP Jacksonville, to large-scale events such as those at Englewood High School and Robert E Lee High School, which saw over 100 students each announce their intent to enroll at FSCJ this fall. Check out the highlights of the Robert E Lee Signing day event on our FSCJ Flickr Album.

Finally, in a testament to the work done by many at FSCJ, Recruitment & Admissions is pleased to share a testimonial recently received from a current student about our own Bonnie Lucey, Enrollment Development Coordinator (edited for length and content):

"Over a year ago I decided to go back to school. I made a call to FSCJ to inquire about the PTA program and Bonnie answered the phone. I explained to her my situation of being out of school for 20 years and out of the work force for 10. She put me at ease immediately and we began my pursuit of the program. She went through pre-requisites and the application process. She insisted on updates on my progress and was very good at following through. I was accepted into the program but, at this point, I was running out of time with transcripts. One because I had finished my AA while waiting and two, because my high school transcripts were difficult to track down and match up with my FSCJ file, due to name changes, etc. I called Bonnie...she didn't have all answers, but put forth the extra effort to find them. She made phone calls, went in person, and sent emails, all for me. Bonnie has assisted me so much through this process, I wanted to make sure her work did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Every time I spoke with people at the North Campus, though she works at a completely different location, they knew exactly who Bonnie was and had high praise for her. It is important to me that you know how much she helped me and how impressed I am with her. Her honesty and effort was amazing. I have seen bad customer service and good customer service. Bonnie goes above and beyond constantly, and I am grateful for her."
