FSCJ is closed for Winter Break, Thursday, December 19-Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and New Year’s Day on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The College will reopen Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Barvenia has more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience. Most recently, she has been in the community developing the Jacksonville franchise of the Women’s American Basketball League (WABL-Hoops) while serving as vice president of operations for the WABL.
Prior to her role at WABL, Barvenia was the head women’s basketball coach at her alma mater, Virginia Union University (VUU), from 2010-15. While at VUU, she was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Year in 2012. That same year, her team won the North Division of the CIAA.
The accomplished coach spent 11 years (1999-2010) as a head coach at Prince George’s Community College in Maryland, during which time her 2006 and 2010 teams finished fifth and 11th, respectively, in the National Junior College Athletic Associate (NJCAA) National Tournament. Barvenia was also named the NJCAA District J Women’s Division II Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010.
Barvenia is a highly decorated student athlete, having been inducted into the VUU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Eleven years later, she was honored by the CIAA as a Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary inductee.
She has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accounting from Virginia Union University and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Organizational Leadership from Nyack College.
