A big congratulations to the students enrolled in our Cosmetology workforce certificate program for their success in the first annual Student Avant-Garde Hair Show.

Out of four participating schools, our students placed first runner-up in the event held at the Orange Park Mall on March 13.

The following cosmetology students worked together to showcase unique hairpieces and wardrobes at the hair show:

  • Robert Money – hair, makeup, costume
  • Tilynn Scheller – makeup, hair, nails
  • Bri’Ona Foster – model, costume
  • Carla Lee - hair
  • Sierra Morrell – assistant

Student Bri’Ona Foster modeled an eye-catching style which consisted of braided hair in various colors.

"The hairpiece was a retro idea, kind of a 1990s club scene meets Bangkok performers,” said Robert Money, who helped create the design. He defined avant-garde as being able to express one’s own creativity in a fashionable and artistic way.

Student cosmetologist Carla Lee also worked to create the unique hairpiece, and felt this event was a good experience which helped prepare her for future events and competitions. Professor Deborah Williams said she took pride in her students' team effort in this event and praised their hard work. Well done to these students for using their distinctive sense of style to represent our College in the community.
