JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville’s (FSCJ) Dental Hygiene Associate in Science (A.S.) graduates have once again achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam (NBDHE). This is the 14th year in a row all program graduates have passed the exam which qualifies them to earn their license so they can become certified dental hygienists and practice in Florida.

In addition to the perfect pass rate, students in this year’s class were ranked in the 93rd percentile nationally based on their scores.

“To achieve a 100-percent pass rate is an achievement on its own, but to see this level of success for 14 consecutive years is a tremendous feat,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “We are beaming with pride over these graduates’ achievements and celebrate our program leadership, faculty and staff whose dedication, expertise and passion for the field have made this possible.”

Elevating the student experience, classroom instruction is enhanced through hands-on training in the FSCJ Dental Clinic located at North Campus. Within this dedicated real-world, patient-care setting, students work alongside faculty, providing free- and low-cost preventative dental care to children and adults.

“The dental community counts on us for the best-trained dental hygienists and assistants, and we deliver each year,” said Instructional Program Manager Jeff Smith, DMD. “While our mission is to educate allied dental workers first and foremost, we take our responsibility to the community very seriously and we are dedicated to providing oral hygiene care at a reasonable price to the underserved communities of northeast Florida.”

The NBDHE assists dental boards in evaluating the qualifications of dental hygienists for licensure. The examination assesses each candidate’s ability to understand important information from basic biomedical and dental hygiene sciences and apply this information in a problem-solving context.
