JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) welcomes its new Executive Director of Military Affairs & Veteran Services, Mishaw Cuyler, Ph.D. Dr. Cuyler brings with him more than 21 years of military leadership experience, including roles in higher education and healthcare administration.

In his new position, Dr. Cuyler will provide vision and direction in helping FSCJ become the most military-friendly College in the nation. He will be responsible for building and stewarding substantive relationships with the United States Armed Forces, Veterans Administration, as well as community, civic, business and industry leaders and partners to promote and facilitate responsiveness to local and regional employment needs, while best serving FSCJ’s military and military-affiliated students.

"We are thrilled to have Dr. Cuyler join FSCJ, bringing his broad expertise, experience and passion for this dynamic subset of our student population,” said College President John Avendano, Ph.D. “As the community’s college, we are always looking for ways to enhance our services and offerings for our military students and their families. We believe the addition of Dr. Cuyler to our team will help align our efforts so we can best serve those who sacrifice so much to keep us all safe and maintain our way of life."

FSCJ’s Military and Veterans Service Center (MVSC) is the principal advocate for active military, veterans, military spouses and dependents at the College, ensuring their unique needs and challenges are met. Within this area, military and military-affiliated students are connected to critical resources and assistance to support their educational pursuit and a smooth transition to civilian life.

“FSCJ’s MVSC reflects our commitment to recognizing and appreciating the contributions of veterans, military personnel and their families,” said Vice President of Student Development Elliott Strickland. “We are excited to bring Dr. Cuyler on board to elevate our reach, outcomes and level of service so these students can reach their goals and find success in their next phase of life.”
