FSCJ is closed for Winter Break, Thursday, December 19-Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and New Year’s Day on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The College will reopen Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The Student Financial Services office is responsible for processing tuition and fee waivers and exemptions. The following is a list of some tuition waivers and exemptions available at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). Waivers are limited to certain courses and types of instruction.
Dual enrolled students enrolled in a class at FSCJ, that also counts toward high school completion, do not pay tuition and fees. High school dual enrollment students must pay tuition and fees if enrolling in a class that does not count toward high school completion.
Dual enrolled students are not required to pay the College’s application fee unless the student enrolls in a class that does not count toward high school completion, the student continues enrollment after graduating from high school, or the student requests an official transcript after graduating.
Exemption for dual enrollment classes tuition and fees is automatically applied and does not require the student to notify Student Financial Services of eligibility.
Homeless students may be eligible for exemption from payment of tuition and fees. According to Florida statute 1009.25 (f), a student who is homeless may be exempt from paying tuition and fees. The statute defines a homeless student as one who “A student who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence or whose primary nighttime residence is a public or private shelter designed to provide temporary residence, a public or private transitional living program, or a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. This includes a student who would otherwise meet the requirements of this paragraph, as determined by a college, but for his or her residence in college dormitory housing.” To apply for the Homeless exemption, complete Form FSH-1, Florida Student Homelessness Verification for Tuition and Fees Exemption Purposes. Additional documentation may be required.
The deadline to submit documents is the 1st payment deadline for the session for each term to StudentFinancialServices@fscj.edu Visit our FSCJ Student Financial Services and select Important Dates for more information about payment deadlines for each term.
The Committee meets once a month to review the applicants. Students who are approved for the Homeless Waiver will have the exemption applied to their schedule for the term requested and will be notified via their FSCJ email account. If the requirements are not met, students will be notified via their FSCJ email account. Decisions are final.
State employees may be eligible for a waiver of tuition and fees. Florida Statue 1009.265 (f), specifically excludes university employees. Also, proviso language in the General Appropriations Act specifies that state employees must be full-time.
By completing this form and submitting it to a state university or community college, state employees are merely notifying the institution of their intent to apply for a tuition waiver. They will still need to follow the normal student registration process required by the state university or community college before being permitted to attend classes.
Waivers will only apply to tuition and fees for up to six credit hours. All other charges are the responsibility of the employee. Employees may only register for classes during the special registration period set aside for state employees. The State Employee registration period begins the Wednesday before the class starts.
State Employee Tuition Waiver forms are located on the FSCJ forms page. For more information on the state employee waiver program, visit the Florida State College at Jacksonville Catalog.
Effective July 1, 2010, students who are or have been in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are eligible for exemption from tuition and fees until the age of 28. Students applying for the DCFS exemption should submit a completed and signed State of Florida DCFS form CF-FSP5220.
Submit your DCFS waivers including your student contact information and student ID# to any Student Financial Services Office or email: StudentFinancialServices@fscj.edu.
