Thank you for your interest in the Dual Enrollment program at FSCJ. Our program serves approximately 3,000 high school students attending public, charter and private school as well as homeschool students. Important information for parents is listed below:

How to Help Your Students Succeed

1. Is Dual Enrollment Right for Your Student?
   While many students are well prepared and ready for college-level courses, Dual Enrollment may not be the perfect fit for every student. Parents need to consider a student’s organizational and time management skills, as well as their maturity before committing their student to college coursework. Coursework will not be modified to accommodate Dual Enrollment students.
   
   
2. Communication Skills
   Students are expected to handle all communication themselves. Parents are often very involved at the secondary level, but with college classes, FSCJ expects all communication to begin with the student and instructor.
   
   
3. The College Transcript
   Dual Enrollment is the start of a student’s college transcript. Receiving a poor grade in a class will remain on a student’s permanent record. If a student receives a D, F or W, they will be required to petition the Dual Enrollment Office in order to continue in the program. A Dual Enrollment student is granted only one petition during their Dual Enrollment career. Students may also lose the ability to participate in Dual Enrollment because of behavior or other extenuating circumstances related to classroom conduct.
   
   
4. Student Responsibility
   It is the responsibility of the student to work with their high school counselor (or homeschool parent) each term to ensure all high school requirements for high school graduation are met, and that the college-level classes the student is taking are beneficial to the student.
   
   
5. Time Management: Dates & Deadlines
   High Schools often have different dates and deadlines that are typically earlier than FSCJ’s deadlines. The dates and deadlines listed in the quick links on the main Dual Enrollment webpage are when all paperwork must be submitted from the high school to the Dual Enrollment office. Please check with your high school to ensure your student has completed their paperwork by the high school deadline. College dates and deadlines are listed on FSCJ’s homepage.
   
   
6. Continuation Requirements
   Students must maintain all continuation requirements designated by FSCJ and the District. School districts may have additional requirements in addition to the continuation requirements below. Please check with your high school counselor.
   
   Student must maintain good academic standing to maintain eligibility in FSCJ Dual Enrollment. Students must:
   
• Maintain a 3.0 unweighted High School GPA per semester
• Maintain 2.0 FSCJ GPA
• Students may lose eligibility by earning a single grade of W, D, F or having been dropped for non-attendance. Students can apply for Dual Enrollment Probation for possible continuation in the program.
• Probationary status limits the number and location of courses the student is eligible to take. Successful completion of the courses while on probation will return the student to full status. Students who do not successfully complete their probation courses will not be able to take further coursework in Dual Enrollment.
• Students who earn more than one grade of W, D, F or NA will be removed from Dual Enrollment and are encouraged to apply to FSCJ after high school graduation.
  
7. Textbooks
   FSCJ uses the FSCJ Bookstore for book pickup. Required books are at no cost to the student/parent.
   
   
8. Student and Parent Contracts
   When a student and parent electronically sign the online application, they are confirming they have reviewed the Student/Parent Contract and understand all policies and procedures.
   
   
9. Cost of Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment students are not permitted to pay for additional classes while in the Dual Enrollment program. Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment classes will be responsible for the cost of any personal or consumable items associated with a specific class or program, such as school supplies, background checks, blood tests, etc.
