JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Athletics recently hired three new coaches to lead men’s basketball, women’s softball and women’s volleyball.

The three new coaches include John Putyrski for men’s basketball, Sabrina Hartsell for women’s softball and Chelsea Hinck for women’s volleyball. Each coach brings a wealth of experience to FSCJ’s programs.

Coach Putyrski, a native of Chicago, Illinois, comes to Jacksonville after most recently serving as an assistant coach for the University of Texas at Arlington during the 2022-23 season. While at UT-Arlington, Putyrski was primarily responsible for player development and opponent and recruit scouting. Prior to UT-Arlington, Putyrski served in several different roles at his alma mater, Illinois State University. He was promoted to director of basketball operations before being elevated to an assistant coach during the 2021-22 season. In his variety of roles and in addition to his focus in player development, Putyrski ran much of the behind-the-scenes operations of the program, including overseeing academics, budget, community service, film, scheduling, travel and supervising the team's student managers.

Coach Hartsell, a former FSCJ softball player and alumni, has spent several years coaching in the Florida College Systems Activities Association (FSCAA) and Region 8. Her previous collegiate coaching career includes stops at St. Johns River State College from 2018-21 and Daytona State College from 2015-18 where she served as the pitching coach in both programs. Hartsell's coaching career started at Bolles High School, where she served as the assistant coach and head coach from 1999-2002. Hartsell stepped away from coaching to focus on her healthcare career, working in the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Emergency Room. During that time, she offered private pitching lessons and in December 2010, returned to coaching at Creekside High School until 2015.

Coach Hinck, a Florida native, returns to Jacksonville after spending the last six seasons with Williston State College in North Dakota. During Coach Hinck's time there, she led the NJCAA Division II program on and off the court to an impressive standing. Her student-athletes were consistently named to the Academic Team, President’s and Dean's Lists, and were selected to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team. She also assisted her student-athletes in moving on to the next level both academically and athletically. In 2014, Hinck began her coaching career at Ridgeview High School. She helped lead their varsity team to four district championships, as an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach from 2014-18.

“We are excited to welcome these three coaches to FSCJ. Each brings valuable experience to their respective teams and will provide our student athletes with development opportunities both on and off the court/field,” said FSCJ Athletic Director Jerry Thor. “These coaches will provide our talented prospects with the ability to continue playing the sports they love while also advancing their collegiate studies.”
