WHAT: The Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) S-5 Scholarship Program and the FSCJ Next Generation PLC Grant will host a Northeast Florida FIRST® LEGO® League robotics tournament at the FSCJ Advanced Technology Center. Five teams from the tournament will advance to the Northeast Florida Regional Championship, where they can win a bid to the international FIRST® Championship.
Fourth- through eighth-grade students from Baker, Duval, Nassau, St. Johns and surrounding counties will compete in the robotics competition. These students have worked for several months to plan, construct and program an autonomous robot, conduct research on a topic of their own choice and prepare a presentation of their findings.
FIRST® LEGO® League is an international educational program. It was initiated in 1998 by the American foundation FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO company. The FSCJ S-5 Scholarship Program and the FSCJ Next Generation PLC Grant are resource and enrichment programs sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation.
Northeast Florida FIRST® LEGO® League is actively seeking competition judges with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, arts, or mathematics (STEAM). Individuals interested in volunteering as a judge should visit the following link and create an account.
