JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State College at Jacksonville, which enrolls nearly 50,000 students in our area, doesn’t currently have a mascot... but that’s about to change.
FSCJ is in the final phase of its official mascot search and is asking for the community’s input to pick the best one.
Everyone is invited to participate in the decision process, which is not only limited to staff and students.
Here are the three finalist names:
- Kraken
- Manta Ray
- Sea Dragon
Jill Johnson, FSCJ’s spokesperson, said this is everybody’s school. That’s why everybody has the opportunity to weigh in.
“We have men’s and women’s basketball. We have baseball, softball, cross country, volleyball. Most of the sports that you’ll see locally, but this mascot is not only going to be for our athletes, but also for our students, be representative of FSCJ in the area we live in. I love that the top three really were marine-type creatures. And so I think that it makes sense because we’re in Jacksonville, in Nassau County. So we’re near the water,” Johnson said.
There’s about a month left to weigh in. Voting is open to the public now through Feb. 23.
“The Kraken just sounds cool, in my opinion,” an FSCJ student told News4JAX. Others chose the Sea Dragon and Manta Ray.
Will it be the Krakens? The Manta Rays? or The Sea Dragons? The decision is yours!
If you want to submit your vote, all you have to do is go to fscj.edu/mascot.
Remember, you don’t have to be a student to vote. Anyone can vote and give their say about who they think FSCJ’s mascot should be.
